Getting Started
What is Marine Vault?
Marine Vault is an all-in-one platform for owners and captains, contractors, and crew/individuals. Owners post jobs, contractors submit bids, work orders get signed by both parties, and every project stays organized in one place.
Is it free to sign up?
Yes. Signing up, posting jobs, submitting bids, and using the marketplace + crew board are all 100% free. Optional memberships ($4.99 Crew / $9.99 Pro per month) unlock extra features — and Marine Vault never takes a percentage of any job.
Who can use Marine Vault?
Three types of users: (1) owners and captains who need work done, (2) verified contractors who bid on jobs, and (3) crew/individuals who post or apply for crew opportunities.
Do I need to verify my account?
Boat owners sign up with just an email. Contractors must verify their business, licenses, and insurance before they can submit bids. Crew are verified via resume and credentials they upload.
Payments & Memberships
How do payments work?
Owners and contractors arrange and make payment directly between themselves, using whatever method they agree on. Marine Vault does not process, hold, or move the job payment, and never takes a percentage of the job.
What does Marine Vault charge for?
The platform is free to use. Optional paid memberships unlock extra features: Crew ($4.99/month) and Pro ($9.99/month). There are no listing fees and no per-job cuts.
Does Marine Vault take a cut of my project?
No. Marine Vault never takes a percentage of any job. The owner and contractor settle the full amount directly — the platform only ever charges for an optional membership.
How do I pay for a membership?
Memberships are billed monthly by card. You can upgrade, downgrade, or cancel anytime from Settings → Subscription.
Do I have to pay for a membership?
No. Posting jobs, submitting bids, signing work orders, and using the marketplace and crew board are all free. Memberships are optional and only add extra features.
Projects & Bids
How do I post a job?
Sign up free, click "New Project" from your dashboard, describe your boat and the work you need. Add photos, line items, a budget, and a location. Publish to all contractors or invite specific ones. Takes about 2 minutes.
How do contractors submit bids?
Contractors browse open jobs, click to see details, then submit their own structured invoice, including their line items, pricing, timeline, portfolio photos, certifications, and a PDF quote if they want. Owners review and accept the best one.
Can I ask questions before accepting a bid?
Yes. Every work order has built-in messaging so owners and contractors can clarify details, negotiate scope, or request changes, all documented in one place.
Can I modify a bid after submitting it?
Yes, until the owner accepts it. You can edit line items, pricing, timeline, and attachments. Once accepted and funded, changes require mutual agreement.
Do owners get a work order or invoice?
Yes. Every accepted project generates a PDF work order showing the contractor, line items, and totals, signed by both parties. It's stored in your dashboard and emailed to you.
Disputes & Protection
What happens if the work isn't done right?
Don't sign off on the completed work until you're satisfied. You can request changes via messaging, and if the contractor refuses to correct the work, you can open a dispute. Because payment is arranged directly between you and the contractor, hold off on final payment until the work meets the agreed scope.
What if I open a dispute?
Our team reviews all project messages, work-order details, and photos, and helps both sides reach a fair resolution based on the documentation, typically within 3-5 business days.
Are contractors insured?
Every verified contractor must show proof of general liability insurance (minimum $1M), any applicable state licenses, and relevant certifications (EPA, manufacturer-certified, etc.). These are displayed on their public profile.
Why are emails hidden?
We hide all user emails from browsing users to prevent spam, harvesting, and off-platform bypass. Once two users connect through a project or contact request, they can message each other in-app, no email addresses needed.
Marketplace & Crew Board
Is the Marketplace really free?
Yes. Listing, browsing, and connecting on the Marketplace costs nothing. Marine Vault doesn't take a percentage of marketplace transactions, we're just the connector.
How does the Crew Board work?
Boat owners, charter companies, and captains post crew opportunities (full-time, delivery, day-work). Crew create profiles with resumes and certifications, then apply with one click. Free for everyone.
How is crew paid?
Crew employment is handled directly between the employer and the crew member. Marine Vault connects the two sides — it does not process or hold crew pay.
Account & Privacy
Can I delete my account?
Yes, anytime. Open settings → account → delete account. Active projects should be completed or closed first. Your data is removed per our Privacy Policy.
What about user reviews?
We intentionally don't use star ratings. Instead, our Performance Scorecard shows verified project outcomes: Completed & Paid count and Disputes count. Objective, not subjective.
Can I block or report a user?
Yes. You can report inappropriate content, spam, fraud, harassment, or unsafe behavior from any profile, listing, or bid. You can also block users, once blocked, they can't see your content or send requests.
